Dietitians are one of a kind; they are uniquely trained to advise you on food, healthy eating and nutrition. Dietitians must be part of a regulatory body, just like doctors, pharmacists and nurses. The terms “Registered Dietitian” and “Dietitian” are protected by law. Only qualified health professionals can legally use those titles. In British Columbia, the legislation distinguishes between Nutritionists and Registered Dietitians. Dietitians are regulated under the Health Professions Act, Dietitians Regulation and the CDBC Bylaws. The title of Nutritionist is not a reserved title in BC. A dietitian is your smart choice for credible advice on healthy eating.

Registered Holistic Nutritionists "RHNs" are not educated to the same standards as Registered Dietitians. RHNs may use the designation "Registered" in their title  because their program of study paid the required fee to Industry Canada to legally trademark the title of the program. However, RHNs are not regulated under the Health Professions Act.
