Partnership for Dietetic Education and Practice (PDEP)

Three partners make up PDEP: regulators (the Alliance), professional association (Dietitians of Canada - DC) and dietetic educators. Equal representatives from each partner group continue to met regularly in-person or by teleconference to continue work on projects of mutual interest, particularly the Integrated Competencies for Dietetic Education and Practice (ICDEP) and related Performance Indicators.

The Integrated Competencies are being designed to meet the specific needs of all partners and will be reflected at an appropriate level in:

  • the Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination (CDRE) administered by the Alliance (national regulators),
  • dietetic student and internship curricula provided by national dietetic education programs, and
  • accreditatioin standards and competencies currently administered by Dietitians of Canada's.

Once the Integrated Competencies and Performance Indicators are completed and approved/ validated nationally, they will replace the current competencies used by the CDBC.

A first draft of the Performance Indicators was presented at the Educators Workshop prior to the DC conference on June 14, 2011 in Edmonton. Focus group consultation with various stakeholder and interest groups will proceed until January 2012, with final approval planned for Spring 2012. Implementation of the Integrated Competencies and Performance Indicators by all three partners is planned for 2012/2013. Dr. David Cane, consultant, facilitates all sessions and Ms. Angela Cuddy is the Project Manager. For further information, visit the PDEP website at www.pdep.ca
