Board of Directors Election Results
Three positions on the Board of Directors become vacant April 1, 2012 and have been filled by acclamation. Two are for the Vancouver Coastal Electoral Region and one is for the Interior/North Electoral Region.  In order to stagger the two Vancouver Coastal positions, the Registrar randomly drew names for one and two-year terms.  Election results are:
  • Maria Dedegikas, Vancouver Coastal Electoral Region, re-elected for a two-year term, April 1, 2012 to March 31, 2014,
  • Heather Lovelace, Vancouver Coastal Electoral Region, elected for a one-year term, April 1, 2012 to March 31, 2013, and
  • Cassandra Hamilton, Interior/North Electoral Region, re-elected for a two-year term, April 1, 2012 to March 31, 2014.

CDBC Employment Opportunity

Position:   Quality Assurance Coordinator
Status:      Contract (1 yr); 20-30 hrs per week
Location:   Vancouver, BC
Date:         Mid March/Early April 2012

Position Summary: Coordinates and manages core quality assurance (QA) functions and the Quality Assurance Committee; Assists with quality assurance policy development; Provides information to registrants regarding the Continuing Competence Program; Manages electronic and paper files, ensuring security and confidentiality of records as they relate to quality assurance.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Working in a collegial manner with the Registrar and College staff to meet regulatory mandate of the College as outlined in the Health Professions Act, Dietitians Regulation, CDBC bylaws, Board and Committee policies
  • Coordinating and supporting the work of the QA committee, staff and consultants to accomplish the goals of the College as set out in the Bylaws and Board policy
  • Communicating with registrants, potential registrants and relaying communications to Board from Quality Assurance Committee to support activities of the College
  • Assisting with consultant projects as required and/or requested by the Registrar
  • Performing other related duties and special projects as requested by the Registrar
  • Coordinating the online Continuing Competence Program (CCP)
  • Coordinating reinstatement application process and ensure compliance with policy
  • Coordinating Quality Assurance Committee meetings
  • Liaising and advising committee members, consultants, registrants and the public regarding the CCP
  • Updating QA Committee news on the College website
  • Responding where possible to inquiries and correspondence relating to quality assurance and regulation from registrants, applicants and public
  • Contributing regularly to Monthly Updates as it relates to quality assurance issues for publication and distribution to registrants

  • Knowledge of the Health Professions Act and a demonstrated understanding of regulatory functions and related administrative law principles preferred
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office® software programs including Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook, the Internet and website management software

Certified Practices Committee
The CDBC is looking for RDs and their interdisciplinary colleagues who have knowledge of the didactic and practical training competencies required to safely practice the four proposed Certified Practices: administer parenteral nutrition by instillation, insert feeding tubes, change or remove gastrostomy feeding tubes, and inject drugs (that may include insulin and specific vitamins). The work involves reviewing and finalizing broad-level competencies. Time commitment is minimal and meetings are by teleconference. New FAQ Section on the CDBC Website
A new section on Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) has been added on the CDBC Home page. The FAQs section contains pertinent Q&A questions collated from the Monthly Updates as suggested by the Board. The FAQs section is organized into 7 categories: CDBC Topics, Code of Ethics, Continuing Competence, Legislation & Practice, Registration, Restricted Activities and Vitamins & Minerals. CDBC staff will continue to update the FAQs as new questions come along. We welcome registrants to keep sending us questions and ethical dilemmas!

Patient Relations Program: Where’s the Line?
The Patient Relations Program is part of the CDBC Quality Assurance initiatives. A new colour version of the program called “Where’s the Line?” has replaced the plain text document originally posted on the website under Quality Assurance/Patient Relations Program. This is an easy to read, informative resource on the topic of boundaries between dietitians and their clients.

Reminder: 2012 Continuing Competence Program (CCP) Group
This is a reminder to Full Registrants in the 2012 CCP Group who have not yet submitted their Professional Development Plan. If you missed the October 31, 2011 deadline, please complete the CCP requirement by logging into the online CCP. Remember you must successfully complete your CCP requirement to renew your registration by March 31, 2012 and avoid the $250 late registration penalty.
