1) Q: What is the difference between a Dietitian and a Nutritionist?
A:
Click here to view the explanation. The titles Dietitian and Registered Dietitian are regulated by the College of Dietitians of BC. Therefore, anyone using these titles in British Columbia must be registered with the College. The title of nutritionist is not protected by law in BC.
2) Q: What are the requirements to register with the CDBC?
A: Registration with the College requires a minimum of four-year bachelor degree education in dietetics and one year supervised internship or equivalent academic and practical training. Applicants also have to complete the
initial registration process and pass the Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination
(CDRE).
3) Q: What is the difference between Temporary and Full registration?
A: Temporary registration is granted to applicants who have satisfied all initial registration conditions except passing the Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination (CDRE). Full registration is granted after passing the CDRE.
Temporary registrants may practice dietetics similarly to Full registrants with the following exceptions:
- May not supervise another dietitian
- Have to use the title RD(t) instead of RD
4) Q: Which BC Universities/ Colleges offer dietetic education?
A: The
University of British Columbia and Langara College's
Dietetic Programs and
Nutrition & Food Service Management Program
offer dietetic education in BC. Please

5) Q: How do I register with the College if I was educated outside of Canada?
A: Graduates from an accredited dietetic program in the USA, please
click here. Graduates from a non-accredited dietetic program in the USA or other international dietetic programs, please contact the Melanie Journoud, Practice Advisor at
